Small, lightweight, and full of character, the Genggong is a beautifully crafted Balinese mouth harp with a sound that is both subtle and mesmerizing. Played with a rhythmic pull of the string and shaped by the player’s mouth and throat, it offers a fascinating musical experience for beginners, collectors, and lovers of traditional instruments
Handcrafted from sugar palm
Played by pulling a string rather than plucking the tongue directly
Produces soft, resonant tones and changing harmonics
Associated with Balinese village music traditions and Genggong performance practice
Hinson' Story:
I went to Bali in 2023 the first time where I met one of the last few maker of this traditional musical instrument, Suwida. It is definitely my pleasure to be able to connect with him and be able to share his work with you.
